Before choosing a childbirth education class or specialist, research the certified teacher carefully, noting how long she has been a childbirth education professional, any affiliations, contact information, and degrees. Childbirth education teachers must be held to the same sets of standards as other teaching professionals. Meet with the professional or specialist beforehand if you can to get an outline of the course and find out exactly what topics will be covered, such as breastfeeding, breathing techniques, labor and delivery support and advice, hospital tours, childbirth training, instruction courses, and delivery assistance. Find out the cost of the program and ask about any other parenting resources available to you in the community.
