A mammograph or mammography is a method of examining breasts for the detection of early breast cancer in women. Mammographs or mammography exams use a special type of imaging machine that is similar to an x-ray machine but less harmful. A mammograph or mammography can diagnose breast disease in women who are not even experiencing cancer symptoms. Changes in the breast can be detected by a mammograph or mammography up to two years before the cancer can be detected using other methods.
